Can: Return (1977 Krautrock Ethnofunk sampling Saw Delight)


This video was made to honour the request of a loyal subscriber who bemoaned the lack of new Can videos these past few months. Although 'Rite Time' is the only studio album yet to be given a DIY video, I decided to share my offering for the flipside to the 'Don't Say No' single. 'Return' is basically a streamlined version of the epic 'Saw Delight' composition, 'Animal Waves', only this out grooves the album track. Just listen to Rosko's bass licks flirting with Jaki's elegant polyrhythms... Simply sublime! The EFS project proved that Can were always a 'world music group', yet this little known 7" throwaway manages to encompass African & Latin beats within the parenthesis of a classic Krautrock motorik... The footage is from 'Solar Nauts' a rip roaring sci-fi adventure series featuring not only green skinned Michael Stipe alien look-a-likes, but also an escape rocket resembling a popular vibrating sex aid... Not that I own one or anything, cough, cough.
